Its the same with me! That's why I have wait to get a new laptop first. Due to my uni work, I'm pretty much stuck using windows because they insist I use windows for some unfathomable reason.

Tbh, im kinda new to the mech genre. I've seen evangelion (that counts as a mech, right?) and i loved it. I've seen gundam gquuuuuuux and witch from mercury so I think its about time that I start from the top and make my way through the entire gundam franchise. I've just started gundam 0079.

I really want to get into model making as well but I just don't have the money. and you've been to japan? luckyy! I want to go too, someday.

Are the kits available for cheaper in japan? Because they're quite expensive out here.

I haven't seen pacific rim but I've heard so much that I feel like I should just watch it. Are there other movies I need to see before PR? or is PR a standalone film?

It is a bit of an expensive hobby, there is no shame in buying knockoffs from temu or Aliexpress though! Quality isn’t too much worse and it’s a fraction of the price. I try to buy originals when I can but I have bought some knockoffs before.

Japan is a whole anoter world for that stuff. Not only are there so many huge stores selling kits and figures, Japan has a massive resell market with stores like Mandarake that you can find retired stuff very often for cheap secondhand prices. I really hope you’ll get to see it someday too!

My roommate’s very into models (I lean a bit more into Lego) so we get cargo from Japan so often. I think his dad has some deal with a company, we have boxes upen boxes.

Pacific Rim is like a loveletter from the west to mech anime. I’m sure you’ll love it. It is standalone, but know that it has an atrocious sequel that really doesn’t deserve that title. It still scratches that mecha itch a bit but not as good as the first.

evangelion was so fucking good!! That's why I watched gundam gquuuuuuux because it was made by the same direction: Hideaki Anno. It's apparently an alternate timeline to the actual gundam timeline though...

I wonder how much a knockoff model would cost.

I'm so hype to visit japan, whenever that happens...gosh what's gonna happen to my savings when i go? I'm gonna end up buying so much stuff lmao

Prices depend on what and where you’re buying from, though usually it’s an acceptable price for the size of the model you’re buying.

Travel and staying is surprisingly cheap in Japan, the most money I spent was on the stuff I bought haha :p

Yess, please let me know what you think afterwards! Watching PR for the first time is definitely an amazing experience.

And yeah, thats why i worry for my savings when I go to japan and see the merch for all the shows that I love but havent been able to buy any merch for- T_T

I am planning a series that is basically just a love letter to various anime genres that I love and ofc, ive included mechs in that story as well!

That sounds really cool! A lot of the anime discourse always seems to be the extremely popular stuff which I don’t have a problem with obv, yet so many amazing gems are overlooked
