@megamech 🌟
I finally watched Pacific Rim! It was an absolute banger. If that was the west’s love letter to the Mech genre then I’d say their love was well expressed. The music was amazing. The designs for the mechs were quite old school and the kaijus were quite creative. One of them had a flower-like tongue which I found quite adorable ngl. There were so many cool little ideas throughout the film that I felt could be easily expanded into a TV show, like the story of Hannibal Chau, how all the different teams of pilots come to be formed and what types of missions each have completed together etc.
Also mechs in the movie aren’t piloted by pilots sitting down in a cockpit but rather the pilots have to physically perform the action that they want the mech to perform, which was a fun change of pace.
I wish they played around with the idea of “drifting” or linking memories with other pilots a bit more; could be used to add a psychological edge to the story but, overall, it’s a super fun film!
