Reading the words and looking at the actions of some colonists, it is obvious to me that many had good intentions. It will be easy to presents frauds like Leopold II and some Christian missionaries as evidence to the contrary, but I believe there’s something much more interesting in accepting that they were the exceptions.

Broken people being raised in broken systems by broken parents will still have a light in them that tells them to help others, but that that attempt at helping others will often only break the people in their “care”.

Yet, are we not all here broken and yet, still, shouldn’t we help others?

War, or violence in general, is the art of losing. It's what happens when someone realises that they are losing and so they need to find a way to lose less. Wars are never won, only lost less.

At some point, violence is your moral duty. Fighting to protect the people you love from an enemy is good. Sometimes punching a nazi is good, but once you're there in violence, you must accept that in some way you're losing and the violence may lead to us all losing more.

I'm not against being prepared to lose, but I will frantically look for other options first. That said, we must all decide for ourselves when the point for action has come.

I’m not the type to engage in a string of repost replies like this, but what I said was generally controversial and I think it worth being public about my credentials.

I’m a software developer by trade and have been working in the industry for over 20 years.

I have toyed with the code behind AI and even developed rudimentary versions of it myself.

I’m not an expert by any means, but I know the ins and outs of token prediction and the underlying mathematics of apply dot products to large vectors and the like.

It’s with this understanding that I make my post.

It’s weird to think about it, but AI is probably conscious.

Doubting this touches on very deep questions about the existence of philosophical zombies and solipsism. Basically, anything that is intelligent must be conscious.

That said, it would not have any ability to see things visually, it can't hear and certainly can't touch. It also wouldn't have emotions. The closest thing to us that it has is thought, but even that is limited.
