I don't think many people care. Judaism is heavily associated with israel (duh), which is itself heavily associated with zionism (duh). During WW2, you would ask a similar question to germans. It's a matter of association.

So, firstly, the definition of Zionism is simply the belief in the right of Israel to exist. I’m pretty sure what you’re thinking of is Kahanism, the extremist belief that any non-Jews in Israel are enemies and should have no political rights and/or should be removed. This is what people are generalising as Zionism, and while it is a subset of Zionism, it is a very extreme and fascist subset of it.

If your first question when you hear that someone is Jewish is about whether you should deem them “evil” or not - because that is what that is, trying to see if the Jewish person in question support the atrocities being committed by the Israeli government simply because you found out they’re Jewish - is inherently antisemitic, as your first instinct was to question their morals just because of their ethnicity. That is prejudice, and it is not okay.

It’s like asking a furry if they’re a zoophile, or a gay person if they’re a groomer. Just because there’s association in some people’s heads doesn’t make it okay.

You're the one conflating zionism with kahanism now. It's true that many people of the general public will associate zionism with the crimes of israel, but their government is to blame for that. The state of israel is very controversial currently, and it makes sense to me that people's minds would think of that when hearing about judaism. It is a prejudice, but the human mind runs on predictions and categorizations. It's fucking dumb, and i'm not saying it's good to associate judaism with the idf, i'm explaining why it makes sense to me that people to it.

I think the situation is a little different than those other prejudices you named. If a country was founded specifically for furries, and that country was run by zoophiles, it wouldn't surprise me either that that connection would be made in people's minds.

Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity :)

I’m not conflating the two, I’m explaining the difference between them and that people often conflate them. I’m also talking about a specific situation that happened to me, as a Jewish person experiencing antisemitism. Also, Judaism is an ethnicity?? I don’t know why you’re trying to argue that it’s not when I am ethnically Jewish, not religiously. It’s both.

Alright, I’ll give another example. My mother has a Chinese friend who said to her “you know, the Chinese government has committed many atrocities, but when I mention that I’m Chinese, I don’t get asked whether I support that, but when you’re Jewish, not even Israeli, but Jewish, it’s often the first thing on people’s minds. Why is that?”
