seperate post to the previous one. i really fucking wish telecoms companies would hurry the fuck up and support rcs.
I want to uninstall whatsapp so bad, why do i need two fucking apps to send text messages to people…
once i pay my phone contract off. i’ll be moving to a provider that does support it. but i’ll probably still have to have a whatsapp account for a while just to make sure a smooth transition…
does anyone else feel the same? and for that matter fuck signal and co… nothing wrong with them… perse but again i just want one app for the same purpose… pls
so fun fact about me is i have a blog, and my current focus is with digital minimisation/maximisation… as an engineers background my life revolves around tech! but that also means minimising the bad aspects and maximising the good…
that’s meant a bunch of things for me from ditching traditional social media, to having my own server and hosting my own alternatives ie cloud storage, arr* stack, debrid+kodi and more!
for me it’s about striking the balance between freedom, control, and enjoyment… But also in some cases moving away from predatory algorithms, touching grass…
With that being said, i certainly have my blind spots and i know i won’t be the only one.
so for you what has been your own experience with digital minimisation and how do you maximise your experience with technology… this can be anything really, even if you don’t se either exactly through the same lens. I guess in other words what is your best use-case of technology today!
a relatively small community that we’re looking to re-build.
we’re funny and kind people and we just need a bit of jump start and to meet some new cool people. and i think char.social represents the perfect cross-section we need!
don’t make me regret it, or do honestly. drama is good for retention 👩❤️💋👩
i got a packig downstairs. but i have to get somewhat dressed up just to give the appearance that i haven’t just woken up at noon to go grab my packig. apartment living has a dark side
yeah bro just hit the joint. yeah bro it's a hybrid. yeah bro it's like an indica strain mixed with local fungi. yeah don't worry bro it's good it's good bro just hit it
they put a bomb in the back of my head that will explode if i look up a word on google to double check that it means what i think it means. im so fucked
the sun was out today, and i looked beautiful. i walked more than i have in one day since august. i hate that my personality completely switched up when T>15C. but i got jewellery i’ve been missing and looking lightly bussed..
i mention it in my blog i posted. but atleast for the first part assuming your talking about SFC: reels and such. be carful of how addictive they are, you might find yourself substituting reels for shorts or whatever alternatives… it can suck at first. but your brain moves past it. you just gotta find better ways to occupy your time :)
that’s probably a lot and not the most clear lmao. but as a seperate question what are your opinions on non-traditional social media…
char is definitely included on that. but also things like letterboxd or their equivalents. substack also… aswell as bluesky.
do you think we’ll see an alternative grow for the likes of instagram/facebook where people come for the human interaction within their own lives… but has been bastardised by propagandists, advertisers, and others…
is it even possible for such a thing…
also this isn’t to encourage doomer “the average person doesn’t care this much” bcs it’s just not an enjoyable conversation
Vocal-loud-minority! Most people don't acc fuck with AI, Those that do (online) very likely are bots (or just stupid!)
The amount of disinformation you can sow with an army of GPT is lucrative to nation-states, But even large corporations are now... That the venture capital funding is running dry, and LLM companies are needing to acc make money. Realise it's crazy expensive and not worth it.
My view has always been that in for the most part it's not worth it, but if it *does* have purpose for research that's good. But if I'm not curing cancer it's not pivotal to my work.
Frankly these jobs/tools are both here to stick, it will not become significantly more viable and it's current rate is unsustainable.. Does it have a place in the future? maybe...
Is it going to be big as the hype, absolutely not. Just keep working and developing your skills and do what you can to keep yourself happy and fulfilled
and from a linux perspective you might wanna try wine with FL. but i have no idea if it's too outdated/any good this way https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=178
basically a free alternative to Kontakt that is also available native on Linux and has plenty of sampled instruments you can download already
Second is Vital, it is a wavetable synth (you can draw the shape of the soundwaves yourself), quite like the more well-known Serum, but also just as powerful, free and with a native linux build
Third is yabridge, which is the tool for tunning windows VST plug-ins through wine. Not every plugin will work nice that way (spitfire and native instruments and all those web ui things come to mind), but plenty still do just fine

I don't make music, but someone sent me this message regarding linux-daw's and I've had it sititng in a .txt file since for exactly this moment apparently
would say that Bitwig is very similar to Ableton Live in terms of UI and workflow, which also includes live performance as a first class usecase, unlike FL. It also has quite a good standard library of synths, effects and samples, which lets you save on getting those elsewhere. Reaper is closer to something like Audacity / Adobe Audition than FL or Ableton in terms of UX, despite also being able to support all the stuff you expect from a DAW, like a piano roll or FX busses and automation. It is a more general purpose and frankly hostile tool, with plenty of layered pop up windows and no built-in synth or sample library – except for FX. On the other side, it is just $60 for the whole thing, while even the more limited version editions of other DAWs (with some of them being glorified demos, looking at you, FL) start at $100 at the minimum
For other things you might want to be on the lookout for, there are, I guess, three names.
this is such a weird hill to die on.. like law? philosophy? i mean depending on how loose we are with the word science… maths? i’m not going to get a prospectus out… and like you’re good covering yourself with art… but heck even economics… like i get it stereotypical ipol/econ student is stereotypical wanker… but even you can be a left-leaning economics student/graduate. and it’s good to have those skills. every degree is very valuable… except golf management— sincerely an electric engineer
because drugs are cool. but yes you should quit smoking nicotine. Find a balance… as someone who’s abused substance and is now like 87% sober. it’s all good fun, but eventually you have to draw that line and understand how bad it is…
but for an actual reason? that lower inhibitions. wether alcohol , weed, ket, cigarette. doesn’t really matter… that state of being out of yourself is fucking bliss when being within yourself is difficult… it’s better than the alternative…
that being said it’s 100% naïve and counter productive and you *should* learn temperance. there’s a reason they’re so popular in a fucked up world like ours
i remember at uni someone had the whole gives a crap tp.
but nowadays you can get paper wrapped toilet paper for packs of 9 or whatever. individual wrap is weird. especially since no one ever in the history of the world has bought a single roll of tp
